Tokyo to continue helping Ukraine and tightening sanctions against Russia

There is currently no talk of progress in peace talks with Russia, new Japanese Foreign Minister says

The new Japanese government, led by Sanae Takaichi, will continue to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine and tighten sanctions against Russia.

This was announced by the new Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who held the post from 2019 to 2021, at his first press conference after his appointment.

„As for Ukraine, we will continue to support it in various ways and assist in its reconstruction and development after achieving long-term peace. On the other hand, in order to achieve a quick ceasefire, we will continue to take decisive action against Russia, including imposing sanctions – "This is our fundamental position," he said.

There is currently no talk of progress in peace talks with Russia, according to Japan's new foreign minister.

The Japanese government maintains its goal of "resolving the territorial issue" and concluding a peace treaty with Russia, the minister said.
