Houthis to bring 43 UN staff to court

They are suspected of complicity in Israeli air strikes that killed senior rebel leaders in August

More than 40 detained UN staff suspected of collaborating with Israel will appear before a Houthi court, Reuters reported, citing Abdulwahid Abu Ras, the acting foreign minister of the Yemeni government.

„Forty-three detained UN staff will appear in court on suspicion of complicity in Israeli air strikes that killed senior Houthi leaders in August,“ the agency reported.

Earlier, a source at the UN office said that Houthi representatives had raided the home of UN staff in Sanaa and interrogated them.

On September 3, the Houthis accused detained UN agency staff in the country of spying for the of Israel and involvement in the assassination of the prime minister of the government established by the group in the territories it controls, as well as several ministers during the Israeli strikes on Sanaa.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, announced on October 7 that the Houthis had detained nine more UN staff. The UN World Food Programme had previously announced that rebels had detained one of its staff in Sanaa, as well as several others in other parts of the country.
