Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro approved proposals from the ruling Socialist Party to switch to armed resistance in case of possible US aggression, RIA Novosti reported, Focus reports.

At the party congress, Maduro called for the measures to be introduced “immediately“ and for operational plans to be developed for every street and every community, so that the population “calmly, restrained, but with firmness and courage“ is in maximum readiness.

According to the president, this is about preparing citizens for possible national and continental armed defense within the framework of constitutional powers. Maduro again insisted on strengthening defense capabilities in order to make the country "impregnable", accusing the United States of 12 weeks of "threats and psychological warfare".

For his part, the party's general secretary and interior minister, Diosdado Cabello, expressed doubts to the president that "something serious" would happen, but urged citizens to remain prepared for the worst-case scenario.
