The New York Times: Food in the US has risen due to Trump's tariffs, Washington is considering large-scale tariff cuts

Measures are coming to lower domestic prices of certain agricultural products, including coffee, beef and citrus

The Trump administration may announce large-scale exemptions from current tariffs due to rising food prices in the US, the report said, citing sources.

According to sources, the measure could affect some of the so-called retaliatory tariffs imposed by the US in April, as products imported from countries that have not yet concluded trade agreements with Washington could potentially be exempted from the tariffs.

Earlier this week, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced that Washington would announce measures in the next few days to lower domestic prices of certain agricultural products, including coffee and bananas.

The New York Times for its part specified that the tariffs exemptions may also apply to imported beef and citrus fruits.

The newspaper recalls that in September, Trump instructed Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to determine which goods not made in the US would be exempt from tariffs. Now, products made in the United States can also be exempt from tariffs. The newspaper notes that these measures contradict the US president's plans to support domestic production and that Trump has not yet made a final decision.
