The pilot who died in a plane crash in Croatia has Bulgarian citizenship

Turkish investigators will also join the investigation into the causes of the incident

The pilot of the Turkish firefighting plane that crashed in Croatia on Thursday had, in addition to Turkish, Bulgarian citizenship, HINA reported, BTA reported.

The incident occurred after two Turkish firefighting planes participating in extinguishing fires in Croatia tried to return to the airport in Rijeka in bad weather conditions.

Turkish investigators will also join the investigation into the causes of the incident, the Croatian agency reports.

A Turkish pilot of a firefighting plane died in Croatia, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced earlier this week. The incident occurred after two Turkish planes took off from Canakkale to Zagreb to help put out a fire.

Due to bad weather conditions, they spent the night at the airport in Rijeka, and on Thursday at 5:38 p.m. they took off from there for the airport in the Croatian capital. However, due to bad conditions, both planes decided to return. While one landed, contact with the other was lost at 6:25 p.m.

The news of the incident was also confirmed by Turkey's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli.
