China is ready to deepen its cooperation with Russia in the fields of energy, agriculture and other investments, Premier Li Qian said during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow last night, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

Beijing also hopes that Russia will facilitate the process of investing and working in the country for Chinese entrepreneurs.

Mishustin told Li that cooperation between the two countries has repeatedly proven its resilience to external challenges.

“Our cooperation in the energy sector is of a special, strategic nature and covers the oil refining, gas, coal mining and nuclear energy sectors“, the Russian prime minister said during the meeting.

Russia, waging war against NATO-backed Ukraine, and China, under pressure from coordinated U.S. efforts to counter its growing military and economic power, are increasingly finding common geopolitical interests, Reuters notes.

Beijing and Moscow announced a "boundless" strategic partnership just days before Putin sent tens of thousands of Russian troops to Ukraine in February 2022.

Over the past decade, Chinese leader Xi Jinping has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin more than 40 times, and in recent months Putin has publicly referred to Beijing as an ally.
