The State Department Names the United States Institute of Peace After President Donald Trump.
„This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace to reflect the greatest negotiator in our nation's history. Welcome to the „Donald J. Trump“ Institute of Peace. The best is yet to come,” the State Department said in a statement.
This independent, non-profit organization was founded by the U.S. Congress in 1984. The institute is dedicated to supporting the United States executive branch in its efforts to resolve conflicts around the world.
The organization’s website announced plans to hold a signing ceremony for the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda on its premises. According to White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, the presidents of the DRC and Rwanda, Felix Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame, will sign the peace agreement on December 4 in Washington, D.C.
Trump has previously said he considers himself worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. However, on October 10, the Nobel Committee announced that the 2025 prize had been awarded to former Venezuelan parliamentarian Maria Corina Machado. Trump then joked that he expected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026.
