A high-ranking Vatican commission has ruled against allowing women to serve as deacons, reports „Reuters“, reports News.bg.
With 7 votes „against“ and only 1 „for“, the established church practice of the clergy being all-male was preserved.
According to the members of the commission, the available historical analyses and theological studies at this stage do not provide grounds for a change in direction and the introduction of women into the diaconal service.
However, the commission does not completely close the issue, recommending that the topic continue to be the subject of additional research.
