Attempts by European diplomats to interfere in India's internal affairs over the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin have been perceived as offensive by the Indian government, the German newspaper Der Spiegel writes.

„Shortly before Putin's visit, the ambassadors of Germany, France and the United Kingdom wrote an article for an Indian daily. In it, they called the conflict in Ukraine "a brutal violation of international law". They did not mention India, which has never condemned Putin's policies, but Indians were surprised, if not frankly offended, by this interference. Delhi will not let anything dampen its joy over the Russian leader's first visit since 2022," the article notes.

The Russian leader's state visit to India took place on December 4-5. On Friday, he held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and later that day, held a separate meeting with President Draupadi Murmu.

Putin noted that the purpose of the visit was not only to discuss energy issues and sign contracts, but also to develop multilateral relations with New Delhi in various areas.
