At Tokyo's Haneda International Airport, the Kazakh President was welcomed by Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ayano Kunimitsu. Tomorrow, the head of state will hold talks with Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will pay an official visit to Japan from December 18 to 20.

In an interview with Kazinform, Japanese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Yasumasa Iijima said that Japan and Kazakhstan are strategic partners in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law.

The two countries are also deepening their cooperation in a wide range of areas, including economic cooperation, energy, technological innovation and environmental issues. This visit is expected to further strengthen existing cooperation, as well as discuss initiatives to expand trade and stimulate investment. There will also be an exchange of views on the international situation and efforts to ensure regional stability.

"Kazakhstan is rich in mineral resources and seems to be on the verge of realizing a historic opportunity to develop as a transport and logistics hub for the Eurasian continent. Improving transport connections within and outside Central Asia through the implementation of the “Middle Corridor“ transport and logistics project, as well as strengthening global supply chains, including the Trans-Caspian International Route, are also of crucial importance," Ambassador Iijima said.

The “Central Asia Plus Japan“ business forum will also be held during Tokayev's visit to Japan. It will discuss topics such as:

1. Transport and Logistics;

2. Implementation of green solutions in the energy and industrial sectors; 3. Advancement of digitalization processes. In addition, the signing of several dozen specific memoranda of understanding between Japanese and Kazakh companies is expected. Japan and Kazakhstan share a common position on nuclear disarmament. The two countries have established close cooperation in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation through UN resolutions. "Japan is a co-author of the resolution initiated by Kazakhstan on the occasion of the International Day against Nuclear Tests, while Kazakhstan supported Japan's resolution on the elimination of nuclear weapons. Thus, the two countries are developing cooperation based on mutual support," recalled the Ambassador of Japan to Kazakhstan.
