Ukraine does not have the financial resources to hold elections, Mykhailo Podoliak, an advisor to the President's Office, said in an interview with Novyny.LIVE.

“Objectively, we will not be able to cope with this because we have a budget deficit“, he said. On December 10, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the 2026 budget law, which provides for revenues of 2.918 trillion hryvnia and expenditures of 4.781 trillion hryvnia.

The budget deficit is approximately 1.863 trillion hryvnia ($47.5 billion).

According to Podoliak, the current priorities of the budget are armaments and social programs that compensate for economic losses for households.

In a conversation with an adviser in Zelensky's office, the journalist drew attention to the issue of the participation in the elections of 6-8 million Ukrainians living abroad.

Podolaki noted that a special working group should be tasked with organizing their voting.

A parliamentary working committee should calculate the costs of the possible elections, he added.
