Heavy snowfalls and torrential rains in Afghanistan have claimed the lives of at least 61 people in the past three days, according to preliminary data released today by the Afghan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.

According to the agency, another 110 people were injured, and 458 houses were partially or completely destroyed, with the northern and central parts of Afghanistan being the worst affected, according to a map on the social platform "Ex" published by meteorologists. According to the Afghan agency, a total of "360 families were affected" due to bad weather conditions.

A spokesman for Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel as many roads in the country are still blocked or covered in snow. One of Afghanistan's main highways, the "Salang" pass, is completely closed to traffic, local authorities in Parwan province, in the eastern part of the country, said.

In Bamyan province, in central Afghanistan, food supplies were distributed to drivers stranded on a snow-covered pass.
