In response to criticism of a post showing US President Donald Trump walking around Greenland with a penguin, the White House said the bird doesn't care about the opinions of others.

Earlier, the White House posted a generated image on X showing Trump walking with a penguin through a landscape resembling Greenland. X users criticized White House officials, pointing out that penguins live in the Southern Hemisphere.

“The penguin doesn't care about the opinions of those who can't understand it“, the White House said in a statement on X.

US President Donald Trump praised “courageous British soldiers“, a day after his comments about NATO troops in Afghanistan were described as “offensive and outrageous“ by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Reuters reported.

Trump sparked widespread outrage in Britain and across Europe after he said European troops were being left out of the fight in Afghanistan.

The UK has lost 457 soldiers in Afghanistan, Reuters reported. During some of the most intense years of the war, it led the allied campaign in Afghanistan's largest province, Helmand, while also fighting as a key US ally on the battlefield in Iraq.

“The GREAT and very BRAVE soldiers of the UK will always stand by the United States of America!“, Trump wrote in “Truth Social“. “In Afghanistan, 457 people, many seriously injured, and they were among the greatest warriors. It is a bond that is too strong to ever be broken,” he added.

Trump’s initial comments provoked an unusually strong reaction from Starmer, who usually avoids criticizing the US president publicly.

The British leader’s office released a statement saying the prime minister had spoken to the president today about the issue.

“The prime minister mentioned the brave and heroic British and American soldiers who fought side by side in Afghanistan, many of whom never returned home,” the statement said.

The statement added that the two leaders also discussed the need to strengthen security in the Arctic. The document said Starmer had identified the topic as an absolute priority for his government.
