European countries will never get back the money that the European Commission wants to take from them to finance Ukraine. This was announced today by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, TASS news agency reported, quoted by Focus.
"Brussels will drag the whole of Europe into debt because of the financing of Ukraine“, the head of government wrote on Facebook.
He noted that EU leaders intend to provide multi-billion aid to Kiev at the expense of the common debt of the countries of the community. This plan is supported not only by the leadership in Brussels, but also by the Hungarian opposition party "Tisza“.
"They say this is a loan that will be returned. I say: "Let Tisza win the election in the same way that the Ukrainians will pay back this loan", Orbán writes.
Earlier, Orbán has repeatedly stated that his government will not participate in EU initiatives to finance Ukraine. Over the past four years, the EU has spent nearly 193 billion euros on its support, and now it wants to provide it with an interest-free "war loan" of 90 billion euros in 2026-2027. In addition, the EU, together with other Western countries and international organizations, intends to allocate $ 800 billion to Ukraine over the next 10 years for reconstruction, not counting military aid, which is estimated at $ 700 billion.
Kiev's request for the total amount of $ 1.5 trillion is contained in the roadmap for the development of Ukraine, which was prepared by the European Commission and submitted to the leaders of the EU countries on January 22 at the summit in Brussels. The Hungarian prime minister warned that the children and grandchildren of current adult EU citizens will have to pay for this.
Parliamentary elections in Hungary, as a result of which a new government will be formed, are scheduled for April 12. The "FIDES - Hungarian Civic Union" party, led by Orbán and its smaller partners - the ''Christian Democrats'' - are fighting the opposition party "Tisza". Its leader is former government official Peter Magyar, who enjoys the support of the European Union leadership and the largest faction in the European Parliament - the European People's Party.
