The Russian Defense Ministry said that Moscow has captured two villages in eastern Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The ministry's statement stated that Russian forces had taken control of Petrovka in Zaporizhia region and Toretskoye in the eastern part of Donetsk region.

Reuters noted that it could not confirm the information through an independent source.

A Russian military representative told TASS that the capture of Petrovka in Zaporizhia region will allow Russian forces to strengthen their control over the rotation routes of Ukrainian units west of the city Gulyaipole.

According to him, the Ukrainian army "is actively using these routes to transfer personnel to forward positions west of Gulyaipole for further attacks".
