The British King Charles III has spoken out for the first time on the Epstein dossier scandal, saying that Buckingham Palace is ready to cooperate with the police as the charges against his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor are examined.
“The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his deep concern at the allegations that continue to emerge regarding his brother's conduct“, a palace spokesman said.
The police confirmed that they were assessing whether there were grounds for an investigation into alleged misconduct and disclosure of official secrets. Emails from the recently released batch of “Epstein files” show that in 2010 the former prince passed reports to Epstein about visits to Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam and confidential details of investment opportunities.
There are also details of investment opportunities in Afghanistan, described as “confidential”, which appear to have been passed to Epstein. Under official guidelines, trade envoys have a duty of confidentiality regarding sensitive, commercial or political information about their official visits.
A Buckingham Palace statement said that “The thoughts and sympathies of the King and Queen have been and remain with the victims of all forms of abuse“.
