The world's largest aircraft carrier has been ordered to sail from the Caribbean Sea to the Middle East, a person familiar with the plans said, as US President Donald Trump considers whether to take military action against Iran, the Associated Press reported, BTA reported.
The move of the "Gerald R. Ford", first reported by the "New York Times", will bring two aircraft carriers and accompanying warships to the region as Trump increases pressure on Iran to reach a deal on its nuclear program.
The "Abraham Lincoln" and and three guided-missile destroyers.
The AP recalls that in October last year, Trump ordered the "Gerald R. Ford" to divert from the Mediterranean Sea to the Caribbean Sea, as the administration was building a massive military presence in the run-up to last month's surprise raid that captured then-Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
According to the agency, the action appears to contradict Trump's national security strategy, which has emphasized the Western Hemisphere over other parts of the world.
Yesterday, Trump warned Iran that a deal with his administration would be "very traumatic". Iran and the United States held indirect talks in Oman last week.
"I guess next month, something like that," Trump said in response to a question about the timeframe for concluding an agreement with Iran on Tehran's nuclear program. "It has to happen quickly. They have to agree quickly," Trump said.
