Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski questioned the right of the US to take a leading role in the negotiations on Ukraine, since Washington is no longer paying for military aid provided to Kiev.

This was reported by The Guardian, citing a statement by the Polish diplomat at the Munich Security Conference.

„It was natural for the US to play a leading role in these negotiations, since it was they who provided the bulk of the military aid to Ukraine. But I would like our American guests to know that now we are paying for this war“, the newspaper quoted Sikorski as saying.

He also added that European countries are buying American weapons for delivery to Kiev under the PURL program, while the United States is not seeking to take any measures in support of the Ukrainian side.

“If we are paying, if this affects our security, and not only Ukraine, then we deserve a place at the negotiating table“, said the Polish foreign minister.

PURL was created by NATO in the summer of 2025 in response to the US decision to end free arms supplies to Kiev. Within the framework of this program, Kiev formulates its military needs, and EU countries allocate funds, buy these weapons from the US and provide them to Ukraine for free.
