Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said that the leverage of closing the Strait of Hormuz should be used in war with the United States and Israel. He made the statement in his first statement since taking office, Reuters and the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
In the statement read on Iranian state television, he called on the people for unity.
Khamenei added that all US bases in the region must be closed immediately.
"Iran will not refrain from avenging its martyrs," he added.
