Europe should recognize its past mistakes in energy and geopolitics, change the leadership of the EU and reconsider its political course towards Russia. This was advised by Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of the Russian President for investments and economic cooperation with foreign countries, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, TASS reports.

"I told you. Europe must recognize its strategic energy and geopolitical mistakes, atone for its guilt, change its leadership in the EU and its Russophobic approach. As predicted, a devastating energy tsunami will soon destroy Europe. "As has been explained many times, Europe needs Russia to survive," he wrote in English on the social network X.

His remarks were made in response to an FT Energy publication warning that Europe should prepare for a prolonged energy shock.

Dmitriev had previously warned that Europe was facing a "energy shock tsunami" due to the European Union's refusal to use Russian natural gas and predicted that gas prices would rise further.

At the end of January, the Council of the European Union finally approved a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas from January 1, 2027, and pipeline gas from September 30, 2027.

The restrictions will begin to be introduced earlier. Imports of LNG under short-term contracts will be prohibited from April 25, 2026, and short-term contracts for gas supply through pipelines must end by June 17, 2026.
