The far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) has equaled the ruling conservative bloc Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the latest survey by the INSA sociological agency, DPA reported.

Currently, the two political forces receive the support of 26% of German citizens with the right to vote.

The survey commissioned by the high-circulation German tabloid "Bild" A survey conducted on weekdays last week showed that the AfD's popularity had risen by one point.

Merz's center-left partner in the current government, the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), lost 1 point and is now at 14 percent - the party's lowest rating since mid-January this year.

The Greens ("Alliance 90"/"Greens") are at 12 percent, and the far Left at 11 percent. No other party has collected the 5 percent needed to enter parliament in the polls.

All leading parties refuse to cooperate with the AfD at both the state and local government levels, DPA notes.

In the elections in February last year, Merz's bloc, consisting of the CDU and its Bavarian partner the CSU, collected 28.5% of the vote, with the AfD following with 20.8% and the SPD in third place with 16.4%.
