Iranians formed human chains today to protect power plants after US President Donald Trump threatened to strike energy infrastructure, according to footage published by state media, AFP reported, BTA reported.

On the 39th day of the war in the Middle East, after a campaign on the Internet and through text messages, authorities said that more than 14 million people had registered to participate in the human chains.

This information, as well as the exact number of participants, cannot be verified, AFP noted. Photos and videos show dozens of people in several places.

The official IRNA news agency showed people forming a human chain “in support of the power plants“ in the southern city of Bushehr, home to Iran's only nuclear power plant.

State television and the Mehr news agency showed dozens of people outside the main power plant in the northern city of Tabriz, as well as another in Mashhad in the northeast.

People also gathered on the main bridge over a river in the southwestern city of Ahvaz, Mehr reported.

US President Donald Trump threatened on Monday to wipe out "an entire civilization" after giving Iran a deadline of 8 p.m. Washington time (03:00 Bulgarian time) to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial to global oil supplies.

The secret service of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it would attack Israeli offshore gas facilities deposits “Karish“ and “Tanin“ in response to the expected American escalation of the war, DPA reported, BTA writes.

The deposits in the Mediterranean Sea are part of a list published online by the secret service. It includes three more targets, which, however, are deliberately blurred.

A caption under the photo reads: “03:30 in Tehran (03:00 Bulgarian time – editor's note); regional leaders will tell [US President Donald] Trump: Crazy bastard, stop this damn war!

Iran's Tasnim news agency quoted a military source as saying that Iran would add Saudi state company Aramco's oil refining facilities and oil pipelines in Yanbu (Saudi Arabia) and Fujairah (United Arab Emirates) to its list of targets if Trump attacks the country's power plants.

Trump threatened to attack Iranian power plants and bridges if Iran refuses to open the Strait of Hormuz by 8:00 p.m. Washington time (03:00 Bulgarian time – ed. note).

On Sunday, he further escalated his rhetoric against Iran's leadership. “Open the fucking strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll live in hell – JUST WATCH!“, Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
