Peter Magyar: Orban's regime is over! Hungarians have made history again

Tisza leader thanks Hungarians for record voter turnout

After the end of election day on April 12, the leader of the opposition Tisza party, Peter Magyar, expressed “cautious optimism“ about the results, which according to initial data point to a historic victory over Viktor Orban, The Guardian reported.

Magyar thanked Hungarians for the record voter turnout (around 78%), saying that “Hungarians have made history again“ and showed how important these elections are for democracy in the country.

Commenting on the initial predictions, he said that Hungary had sent a clear message: “Viktor Orbán's regime is over“.

Even when casting his vote earlier in the day, Magyar framed the vote as a crucial choice between “East or West, propaganda or honest public discourse, corruption or clean public life“.

Despite a lead of around 10% in partial preliminary counts, he stressed that the TISA party wants to “win elections, not polls“, and called for waiting for the final figures.

Magyar's party won 132 seats in parliament, while the Fidesz-KDNP alliance took 59, according to results after processing 29.21% of the vote.
