More than two dozen commercial ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed US administration officials.

According to the newspaper, the ships were tankers, bulk carriers and container ships. Some of them turned off their transponders as they passed through the strait.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) claims that in the past 24 hours no ship entering or heading to Iranian ports has violated the US-imposed naval blockade.

According to a statement published on CENTCOM's X page, more than 10,000 US military personnel, dozens of ships and aircraft are involved in the operation to establish a “blockade of ships entering or leaving Iranian ports“.

“In the first 24 hours, no ship violated the blockade, while six merchant ships complied with requests by US forces to turn around and return to Iranian ports in the Gulf of Oman,“ CENTCOM reported.

The command noted, that the US “support freedom of navigation“ for tankers not heading to or leaving Iranian ports.
