European Union representatives will hold a first meeting in Budapest tomorrow with the team of future Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

Magyar, who won the parliamentary elections and ended Viktor Orban's 16-year rule, is expected to take office as prime minister in May.

A spokeswoman for the European Commission stressed that "time is running out for a number of issues" and that it is in the interest of both Hungary and the EU for the talks to progress as quickly as possible.

Among the key topics is the blocked 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine, the disbursement of which has so far been blocked by Orban's government. Brussels expects the new leadership in Budapest to lift the veto.

A total of around 18 billion euros in EU funds for Hungary remain frozen due to concerns related to the rule of law in the country, conflicts of interest and minority rights.

Although the European Commission has signaled readiness to release the funds more quickly after Magyar's election victory, some MEPs insist that this should only happen after real reforms by the new government.

Access to these funds has been identified as a top priority for the future prime minister.
