Europe must wake up and not underestimate the moment in which the presidents of the US, Russia and China are “anti-European“, said French President Emmanuel Macron in Athens.
“We should not underestimate this unique moment in which the presidents of the US, Russia and China are resolutely anti-European. So now is the time to wake up“, the French president said in the Greek capital, quoted by Politico.
Macron added that he expects the tension in relations with the US to continue after the presidency of Donald Trump, calling it a “historic trend“. He said the key difference in the Republican's second term was that Europe had stopped seeing the situation as a temporary exception. Now, Macron noted, European leaders had realized the need to act together, to demonstrate unity and to defend their interests.
According to Politico, the French president flew to Athens to sign a Greek-French agreement to extend the security pact.
