US President Donald Trump believes that James Comey, as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), contributed to creating enormous threats to the country's political leaders.
„He and others like him created enormous dangers to politicians and others“, said the American head of state, commenting on the accusations against Comey in a conversation with reporters at the White House.
According to Trump, „Comey is a corrupt cop“. „He cheated in the election“. "He was trying to play for Hillary Clinton," the head of state is convinced.
Trump was referring to the 2016 US election, in which he defeated Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Comey appeared in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, a few hours earlier. According to court documents, the former FBI director is accused of threatening the head of state. The charges center on a photo Comey posted on social media in May 2025 showing the numbers 86 and 47 in the sand using shells.
In slang, the number 86 can mean getting rid of something or someone, and Trump is the 47th president of the United States.
In a video address on Tuesday, Comey, who was fired as FBI director by Trump, insisted he was “still innocent”.
The hearing lasted less than 10 minutes. Comey did not say a word and was released. His lawyers told the judge they planned to appeal the "selective and vindictive prosecution" to their client from the US Department of Justice.
