Syria said today that Iran's response for the strike on his consulate in Damascus is his "legal right", reported DPA, quoted by BTA, referring to Syrian state media.
In a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad emphasized that Iran's "response to the Zionist formation constitutes a legitimate right of self-defense".
Meanwhile, the Syrian state news agency SANA quoted a foreign ministry statement to the same effect. It says that by striking Israeli military sites, Iran exercised its right of self-defense.
Iran launched yesterday's attack on Israel after warning it would retaliate against what it claimed was an Israeli strike on its consulate in Damascus on April 1. The strike killed seven officers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including two senior commanders. Israel neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the attack.
