Major American media called for Biden and Trump to participate in televised debates

There is no substitute for a direct duel between the candidates of the American people, journalists believe

Major American television companies and channels, between which ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and Fox News, called on US President Joe Biden and former White House President Donald Trump to participate in televised debates before the presidential election, the ABC television channel reported.

„We, the undersigned national news organizations, are calling on prospective presidential candidates to publicly commit to participating in the campaign debates prior to the November election,” the release said.

„If there's one thing Americans can agree on in these polarized times, it's that the stakes in this election are extremely high. Against this backdrop, there is simply no substitute for a debate between the candidates before the American people about the candidates' vision for the future and their nation”, the letter noted.

Previously, Trump approached Biden with an offer to hold debates before the presidential election "anytime, anywhere".

The US presidential election will be held on November 5. Trump has already received the necessary number of delegate votes to be nominated as the Republican candidate for the head of state. Biden, who is running for a second term, has secured the support of a sufficient number of delegates from the Democratic Party. So expected, the battle will develop between the same candidates as four years ago, when Biden defeated Trump, who was fighting for re-election to the highest public office.
