The US House of Representatives will vote this week on separate aid projects for Ukraine and Israel, after months of political disagreements between the government of President Joe Biden and his Republican opponents, the Speaker of the lower house of Congress Mike Johnson announced last night, quoted by Agence France-Presse, writes BTA.
"This week we will consider separate bills", including a law that provides for "to fund our Israeli allies" and "to support Ukraine in the war against Russian aggression", Johnson stressed.
The House will also consider measures to "strengthen our allies in the Indo-Pacific region" and "take further measures to counter our adversaries and strengthen our national security", Johnson said on the social network "Ex".
The statement was made two days after the unprecedented Iranian attack on Israel, AFP notes.
Western military support, which allowed Israel to intercept almost all Iranian missiles and drones, has caused bitterness in Kiev. "By defending Israel, the free world has shown that such unity is not only possible, but also 100% effective", Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said last night.
"The same is possible to defend Ukraine," he said.
The United States has not sent a major aid package to Kiev since December 2022 due to the blocking of the proposals by Republicans in Congress, AFP notes.
