Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergencies predicts rise of water in Russia's transboundary Ural and Ishim riverbeds. This was announced at a briefing by the representative of the department, Askar Sharip.
"In connection with the stabilization of floods in the central and northern regions of [Kazakhstan], part of the forces and means of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are returning to the points of permanent deployment. At the same time, in connection with the forecast of rising water in the Zhaiik and Esil (Ural and Ishim) riverbeds, the West Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions remain under special control by the Russian Federation, he said. .
According to him, out of almost 119,000 people evacuated since the beginning of March in several regions of Kazakhstan, 21,494 residents have returned to their homes. 8,786 people remain in the evacuation centers, of which 3,814 are children. Water was removed from 4,534 residential buildings and 2,763 yard areas. 5,862 private residential buildings and 1,065 yard areas remain flooded in Aktobe, Kostanay, Akmola, Atyrau and North Kazakhstan regions.
In turn, the press service of the government of Kazakhstan reported that as of April 20, a one-time payment in the amount of 100 monthly calculation indicators (369,200 tenge, or 824 USD) had been received from 8,814 flood-affected families in the amount of about 2.4 billion tenge (7.1 million USD). The amount of compensation for material damage has reached 1 billion tenge (2.2 million USD). This support measure affected more than 2,000 families.
