The head of Hamas has already visited Turkey several times and met with Erdogan. Speaking in parliament on April 17, Erdogan reiterated that he does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization. He also compared the movement to the Kuvayi Milliye volunteer force that operated in Anatolia in 1918-1922 during the war of national liberation that led to the proclamation of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
