Over 8,800 people remain in evacuation points in Kazakhstan due to the ongoing floods, the representative of the Ministry announced at a briefing of the Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan Askar Sharip. "A total of 22,734 people returned to their homes throughout the republic. 8,809 people remain in the evacuation centers, of which 3,828 are children. Water has been diverted from 4,536 residential buildings and 2,767 yards, he said.
As noted by a representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the water level in the Zhaiik (Ural) River bed in Western Kazakhstan and Atyrau Oblast remains under special control, where a second wave of flooding may occur. In these regions, work is being done to raise and strengthen dams and place bags of aggregates.
Civil defense forces continue to pump water from flooded houses in Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Kostanay and North Kazakhstan regions. Over 36,000 people and 5,000 pieces of equipment, 16 aircraft are involved in rescue and flood control operations.
