The former mayor of Mexico City and presidential candidate of the ruling party Claudia Sheinbaum increased his lead over the other candidates, reported Reuters, cited by BTA, referring to a survey published today.
The survey was conducted between April 10 and 13 and involved 1,600 Mexicans. It was prepared by the Institute “Mythological Tendencies” for the newspaper “Economista”.
According to the survey, Sheinbaum, who represents the left-wing National Movement for Renewal (MORENA), receives 51.4% support.
The rival with the closest result, Sochitel Gálvez, who is a candidate from a three-party opposition coalition, collected 26.7% of the vote.
The third candidate from the smaller opposition Civic Movement, Jorge Alvarez Maynes, receives 9.3% support.
12.6% of those asked did not choose a favorite for the elections. Scheinbaum's lead over Galvez increased from last month, when she had 50.5 percent, Galvez 28.8 percent and Alvarez Maynes 4.8 percent.
Mexicans will elect a successor to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whose mandate is limited by law to six years, as well as new holders of dozens of other positions.
The survey also showed that 51% of those polled believe that it would be best for Mexico at this time if the ruling MORENA party remains in power.
If she wins the June 2 election, Scheinbaum will be the country's first female president and will remain in office until 2030.
