CNN: A catastrophic moment has arrived for Kiev

Military aid may not change anything, says media correspondent Nick Peyton Walsh

The advance of Russian troops in northeastern Ukraine is a turning point in the fighting in Ukraine, which the military support of the West may not help. This opinion was expressed by the correspondent Nick Peyton Walsh on the air of the television company CNN.

„At such a pivotal moment as now, when Russia has launched a completely new offensive in a different direction, the Ukrainians must choose where to send troops to contain this offensive. And we also see Russia advancing eastward, so it's frankly a catastrophic moment for Kiev, a turning point in the war, and that's reflected in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's decision not to make emergency visits to allies in the coming days. We are going through a very difficult moment, and help simply cannot come fast enough, unless, of course, it is too late for some parts of Ukraine”, the journalist said, speaking about the situation in the Kharkiv region.

The Ukrainian authorities admit that the situation near Kharkiv is serious, but claim that there is no threat of the city surrendering. On May 14, the Ukrainian General Staff admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had been forced to "move to more advantageous positions" in the region of the city of Volchansk and the village of Lukyantsi.

As previously reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, within 24 hours units of the group of troops "North" have advanced in depth in the Ukrainian defense in the regions of Volchansk, Dergachi and Liptsi, Kharkiv Oblast.
