Iceland elects its new president today. The popular current head of state, Gudni Johannesson, is not running again after two terms in office, although the constitution does not restrict him, DPA and BTA report.
Voters must choose between 12 candidates, including Katrin Jakobsdottir, who surprised the country by resigning as prime minister in April to run for president.
The polling stations open at 9:00 GMT (12:00 Bulgarian time), and the first results are expected around 22:00 GMT (1:00 tomorrow Bulgarian time).
