G-7 discusses China's excessive industrial capacity and Beijing's support for Russia

On the last day of the meeting of world leaders, Pope Francis will also participate

The leaders of the G-7 countries will continue their annual meeting on summit on the last day of talks today, with the issue of China being first on the agenda before Pope Francis' speech on artificial intelligence, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

While Ukraine dominated the first day of talks, China will be a key issue this morning. The leaders are expected to express their concerns about China's overcapacity in industry and Beijing's support for Russia.

In addition to his speech on artificial intelligence, Pope Francis will participate in several bilateral meetings, including with Biden, Zelensky and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"This is a historic day. We will welcome the Holy Father. This is the first appearance of a pope at a G-7 meeting. I am proud that this will take place during the Italian presidency," Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told journalists last night.

Leaders will also discuss migration, a key issue for Meloni, who has urged Europe to help curb the flow of illegal migrants from Africa. It launched a new initiative to boost development on the African continent to tackle the root cause of people leaving their home countries.

Many of the leaders will leave Italy late tomorrow, including Biden, and Meloni said they had already agreed on the conclusions of the summit, which should be approved at the end of the day.

Saturday is set aside for bilateral meetings before Meloni's closing press conference.
