Moscow: With the new sanctions, Britain is limiting its own economic development

On Thursday, the British government expanded the list of sanctions on Russia

The United Kingdom is limiting its own economic development by introducing new sanctions against Russia. This is stated in a comment of the Russian Embassy in London, transmitted to TASS.

"Methodically restricting the country's development with its own punitive measures, London has apparently finally come to terms with the ultra-low - within statistical error - growth rates of the British economy, which has gone adrift. A significant increase in energy prices for consumers, a jump in inflation, increased unemployment - all this is largely the result of the futile foreign policy adventures of the conservative government that has been in power for the past few weeks, Russian diplomats noted. “Isn't it time for London, after recording losses from the fruitless course of confrontation with Russia, to start breaking out of this impasse of sanctions? - noted in the text.

The British government's new package of sanctions, timed to coincide with the G7 summit in Italy, the embassy said was an opportunistic attempt to gain temporary competitive advantages by limiting Russian operators' options in the financial and energy sector.

„This has long ceased to have anything to do with the liberalism and market economy that the collective West seems to stand for. We are only talking about the convulsive attempts of London and Washington to prevent Russia and other, more successful and dynamically developing entities of the world economy from finally overtaking them, the text says. - Ironically, the ultimate beneficiary of this policy, even if it had a chance to achieve results, would not be Great Britain, but the USA with its more developed financial infrastructure and export potential. The British themselves, diligently serving their senior overseas partners, have received nothing of substance from them since Brexit, including the cherished free trade agreement.“

On Thursday, the British government expanded the list of sanctions on Russia, including in particular the Moscow Stock Exchange, the National Settlement Depository, the National Clearing Center and the stock exchange in St. Petersburg, the insurance company "Ingosstrakh", the operator of the project to build a gas processing and liquefaction complex in Ust-Luga "Ruskhimallians", the company "Novatek Murmansk" and "Rusatom Arctic".
