Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly criticized the decision to release the director of Ash Shifa hospital in Gaza. This comes after the hospital's director accused Israel of engaging in "torture" during his detention, which lasted more than seven months, France Press reported, highlighting an important moment in the ongoing tension between Israel and Gaza, BTA reports.

The release of Mohammed Abu Salmiya provoked a clash between the Israeli authorities. Netanyahu called it a "serious mistake," while the Homeland Security Agency presented it as a way to "free up places in detention centers".

Mohammed Abu Salmiya was arrested in late November and the Israeli military said that under his leadership the hospital had been "the scene of numerous terrorist activities by "Hamas" - the Islamist movement whose unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7 sparked the war in the Gaza Strip.

Yesterday, the Palestinian said he was detained "without charge" and was subjected to "severe torture" while in custody. The Israeli army said it was "verifying this information".
