German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was welcomed with military honors in Warsaw by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, which marked the beginning of the first German-Polish intergovernmental consultations since 2018, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

Scholz traveled to Poland together with 12 federal and regional ministers. According to government sources in Berlin, the consultations should give a "strong push" of good neighborly relations between the two countries. A joint German-Polish action plan involving several projects is expected to be agreed upon.

Berlin is expected to present a financial package for Poland that would include compensation for living Poles who fell victim to the Nazi regime's occupation, as well as German aid to protect NATO's eastern flank.

Furthermore, part of the funds will be directed to the construction of the German-Polish cultural center in Berlin. The house will aim to remind of the complex German-Polish history and the cruelty of the Nazi occupation during the Second World War, as well as to create a place to commemorate the Polish victims of the war, DPA notes.
