German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told an election rally last night that he had set his sights on task to provide its compatriots with stable long-term pensions, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
In a speech at the launch of his German Social Democratic Party's (DSDP) campaign for Saxony's Landtag (regional parliament) elections in the regional capital Dresden, he said he would push through a law that would "guarantee the stable level of pensions in Germany for decades. forward".
"Those who have worked and contributed for decades deserve it," he added. Scholz emphasized that pensions are not charity and that their stable level is a necessary prerequisite for the preservation of the welfare state.
In his speech, Scholz assured Ukraine that support for it in its fight against Russia will not stop.
"At the same time, we will do everything possible to ensure that this war does not turn into a conflict between Russia and NATO," he said.
The chancellor said that the decisions will be made with reason and that is precisely why, in his words, he did not give in to every demand.
"All these requests - to shoot down missiles and planes with our weapons, to send soldiers there - we will not comply, because this is not the right way,' said Scholz. "The aid to Ukraine must be provided and will be provided in another way."
In his speech, the chancellor specifically focused on the election campaign in the eastern state of Saxony.
"There can only be good governance in Saxony if it is coalitional," said Scholz. "There can be good governance in Saxony only if the GSDP has a strong representation in the next regional parliament."
Regional elections for a new Saxony Landtag will take place on September 1.
Studies by sociologists show that the current ruling coalition between conservatives from the Christian Democratic Union, the Greens and the GSDP will lose its majority.
Among the Greens and the Social Democrats, there are fears that they may not even enter the next regional parliament.
