Tensions in the region

North Korea has again launched balloons, believed to be carrying garbage, in the direction of South Korea.

This was reported by the Renhap news agency, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of the South Korean Army.

The balloons appear to have flown towards the capital Seoul.

South Korean authorities have advised local residents not to touch them, but to report the discovery to police or military officials.

North Korea has previously sent balloons filled with garbage to the South nine times in retaliation for propaganda leaflets that North Korean defectors in South Korea also send to the North via balloons, the agency recalled.

On Thursday this week, South Korea resumed propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts against North Korea.
