The West is considering the possibility of removing Hungary from the EU presidency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told journalists on his way back from North Cyprus, broadcast by state TV TRT-Haber, broadcast by BTA.
Last week, during the NATO summit in Washington, we spoke with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. After the meeting, he said he would have dinner with Donald Trump, Erdogan said.
The following day, a number of harsh criticisms were leveled at Orbán, including his trip to Moscow in July, as well as his position and actions in the context of international politics.
Mr Orbán also visited China and was criticized by Western countries for the same reason. He attended the meeting in Shusha, Azerbaijan, and was criticized again, Erdogan said, quoted by TRT-Haber.
Now some Western powers are trying to find a way to remove Hungary from the EU presidency because of the criticism leveled at Orbán. Our task is to be patient. I hope that together we will do what is necessary when the moment comes, emphasized Erdogan.
At the end of the NATO summit, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó represented Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who left Washington earlier to meet with former US President Donald Trump in Florida.
Hungary, which took over the rotating presidency of the EU Council for half a year at the beginning of this month, announced that it is trying to play a mediating role between Russia and Ukraine. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Kiev, Moscow, Beijing and Washington successively on "peace missions", for which he was criticized by a number of Western countries, as they believed he was acting on his own.
