A full-scale conflict between Israel and Hezbollah is not inevitable, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin said, Reuters reports, quoted by News.bg.
He stressed that Washington wants to see things resolved diplomatically.
Austin made the comments during a joint press conference in Manila, following security talks between himself, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and their respective Filipino counterparts Gilberto Teodoro and Enrique Manalo.
Earlier this month, 12 people were killed in a rocket attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Israel threatened to retaliate against "Hezbollah" for the raid, hitting several targets in Lebanon.
Fighters of "Hezbollah" evacuated their positions in the eastern and southern parts of the country. Numerous flights to and from Beirut airport were suspended or canceled due to fears of Israeli strikes.
