At least three Iraqis killed in explosions at a military base south of Baghdad

The victims are members of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces

At least three members of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (NMF) were killed and even more were injured after a base they used, located south of Baghdad, was rocked by explosions, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

The NMS officially belong to the Iraqi state security forces and include several armed formations linked to Iran.

The base was rocked by explosions on Tuesday after missiles were fired from there last week at Iraq's Ain al-Assad air base, which houses US-led units.

The NMS released a statement regarding the deaths of its servicemen, saying the cause of the blasts was still being investigated. The text did not say who might be responsible, but two local Iraqi commanders said the base had been targeted by a US airstrike.

So far, there is no comment from the US side.

Iraq, which maintains an unusual alliance with both Tehran and Washington, is home to 2,500 US troops, as well as Iranian-backed militias linked to Iraqi security forces.
