Torrential rains and floods in northern India: At least 11 dead and more than 250 missing

At least 11 people have died , after torrential rains hit various parts of northern India, and more than 250 people are missing after torrential rains in the Himalayas, reports "Reuters", quoted by News.bg.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 183 mm of rain in the last 24 hours in the popular tourist destination of Dharamshala, in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

More than 50 people are missing after heavy rain lashed the state capital Shimla and surrounding regions, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said in an X post, adding that rescue operations were ongoing.

Two people died after a dam at a power project was breached, hampering travel in the region, state revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi told news agency ANI.

Residents of the capital have experienced a series of extreme weather events over the past few months, from high temperatures to floods and heavy rainfall that caused the roof of the city's airport to collapse.

The Indian Express newspaper reported that four people died in the state of Uttarakhand and 200 pilgrims were stranded along a popular pilgrimage route.
