The European legislative act on artificial intelligence enters into force today, the press center of the European Commission announced, as quoted by News.bg.

Member States have until 2 August 2025 to designate national competent authorities that will oversee the application of AI systems rules and carry out market surveillance activities. Most of the rules of the AI Act will start to apply from 2 August 2026.

The AI Act is the world's first comprehensive regulation on artificial intelligence, which aims to ensure that AI developed and used in the EU is reliable and offers protection to people's fundamental rights. The regulation aims to create a harmonized internal market for AI in the EU, encouraging the deployment of this technology and creating a favorable environment for innovation and investment.

To overcome the transition period before full implementation, the Commission developed the AI Pact. With this initiative, AI developers are invited to voluntarily accept key obligations under the AI Act before statutory deadlines.
