The political leader of the Palestinian group Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed by a bomb planted in a guesthouse in the Iranian capital Tehran months ago, the American television channel CNN reports, quoted by Focus.
According to a source informed about the operation, the bomb was hidden about two months ago in a guesthouse that Haniyeh is known to stay at during his visits to Tehran, and was detonated remotely while he was in his room.
The Iranian government and Hamas claim that Israel carried out the assassination. Israel neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
American officials were informed of the operation by Israeli officials only after it was completed, the television source also assured.
