Yemen's Houthi rebels said they carried out an attack on a merchant ship in the Red Sea, and earlier, multinational naval forces reported that a Libyan-flagged ship was attacked with two ballistic missiles that exploded near it, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

„The armed forces of Yemen /.../ conducted a military operation against the ship "Groton" in the Gulf of Aden”, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saria said in a televised statement.

He added that the attack “hit the ship in a precise and direct way”, stressing that this was the second attack on the ship “after the first on August 3”.

Earlier today, the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC), run by a multinational naval coalition including the US and European countries and based in Bahrain, reported that the ship “Groton” was "under attack with two ballistic missiles 130 nautical miles east of Aden”, a large city in southern Yemen.

The message states that the first missile “fell 50 meters from the bow of the ship” and “the second - 50 meters from the stern“, adding that the ship continued on its way without suffered no damage.

The Joint Maritime Information Center believes “that “Groton” has come under attack due to the recent visits of other ships of the same company to Israeli ports”, says AFP.
