Japanese citizen Masatoshi Nakanishi, who was detained in Belarus, was charged with espionage after as he has confessed to his wrongdoings. This was stated to "Belarus 1" television. the head of the investigative department of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus, Konstantin Bychok, quoted by TASS and BTA.

"Nakanishi has been charged with committing a crime provided for in Art. 358, para. 1 (agency activity - note TASS) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The accused is detained in the pre-trial detention center of the KGB, actively cooperates with the investigation and gives detailed testimony about his illegal activities, said the representative of the Belarusian KGB.

TV "Belarus 1" showed footage of the interrogation of the Japanese, in which he admits that he harmed the security of the country.

"I believe that my actions have harmed the security of Belarus," Nakanishi says in the video.

"These photos I took not far from the Ukrainian border, showing bridges and a railway line, could have been used by the US or Ukraine for a possible attack. I think they could have launched a missile attack on the territory of Belarus,'' said the detained Japanese. He added that there are very close ties between the US and Japan. "I acted badly, dishonorably. "I regret what I have done," the detainee added.
